
A biography of our work in feature film visual effects over the past decade. Resin recently had the distinction of a major role on Baz Luhrmann's Elvis for Warner Bros. Our studio has also forged trusted relationships with our peers recently working as a support vendor to other studios on films including MaXXXine, Monkey Man and Teen Wolf.

Our work included set cleanups, blood and gore, knife blades and some performance augmentation.

Over a period of approximately 12 months, Resin provided pre-viz for several hundred shots and then moved on to produce 200+ vfx shots and various assets. Resin worked on key sequences of the film including Colonel Tom Parker’s nightmare, the famous NBC Studios Comeback Special and the final hero shot of the film.
Our work included full CG shots, set extensions, cosmetic corrections, replicating and syncing over 400 guitarist performances on a 3D virtual set and bringing the NBC Studios control room to life to reflect the look and feel of the era with environment extensions, stage integrations, performance integrations, broadcast monitors and equipment in the control room.

Resin was set the challenging task of recreating an Australian bushfire. Our work was a combination of traditional vfx shots where we created our own fire and smoke simulation elements to composite into the shots and then we also created a 180 degree field of view scene of trees ablaze that was used on a volume screen to shoot some of the action. The results were nothing short of breathtaking.

The Boy and His Robot

Resin worked with director Rich Ho over a two year period through pre-vis of the entire film and then on the production of over 1200 CG heavy visual effects shots. Parts of the films environments were created using Unreal Engine. The work was all handled in house and we developed a GPU pipeline for rendering in house. The film features countless CG assets, use of motion capture for digital doubles, motion graphics work, simulation work and the odd lens flare here and there.

ABOUT THE FILM
A beautiful and contemporary retelling of Colin Thiele’s classic Australian tale.
‘Storm Boy’ has grown up to be Michael Kingley, a successful retired businessman and grandfather. When Kingley starts to see images from his past that he can’t explain, he is forced to remember his long-forgotten childhood, growing up on an isolated coastline with his father. He recounts to his grand-daughter the story of how, as a boy, he rescued and raised an extraordinary orphaned pelican, Mr Percival. Their remarkable adventures and very special bond has a profound effect on all their lives.
Based on the beloved book, Storm Boy is a timeless story of an unusual and unconditional friendship.

ABOUT WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
Where the Wild Things Are is a 2009 fantasy drama film directed by Spike Jonze. Written by Jonze and Dave Eggers, it is adapted from Maurice Sendak's 1963 children's book of the same name. It combines live-action, performers in costumes, animatronics, and computer-generated imagery (CGI).

Resin handled 130 visual effects shots for the film. Set extensions, compositing and digital augmentation of animal performances. Resin created a CGI dog and cat for a stylised fight scene and designed all the typographic elements for the film including the opening title sequence.

ABOUT BLOOD VESSEL
